Airport Highlight: Diamondhead Airport

Welcome to Diamondhead, MS, “Where Living is Easy.” Located near the coast of Mississippi between New Orleans, LA, and Gulfport/Biloxi, MS, Diamondhead is a great tourist destination. Diamondhead is well known for its golf courses and provides high standards for golf enthusiasts. Diamondhead, MS, a short drive from the coast, has many different activities for families and individuals. When you fly into Diamondhead, you will have plenty of options to keep you and your family happy on your trip.

 

The Great Outdoors in Diamondhead

Golf enthusiasts look no further than Diamondhead, MS. The Club at Diamondhead is your ideal golfing destination. It has two championship 18-hole golf courses, practice facilities, and a golf academy. No matter your skill level, there are options for all golfers to play and practice. 

 

There are a lot of different activities to do in Diamondhead. Being so close to the beach, one of the favorite pastimes in Diamondhead is heading to the beach. Head on over to Bay St. Louis; it’s only 25 miles from Diamondhead, just a quick drive away, and it offers you a place to spread out your beach towels and bask in the sun all day long. Though, there are other beaches along the coast not too far from Diamondhead, either. Being so close to the coast, you can access fishing, beach volleyball, building sand castles, or take nice walks with the waves lapping at your feet. 

 

When you’re in Diamondhead, be sure to check out the Twin Lakes. While at Twin Lakes, you and the family can take a hike along one of the walking trails, play disc golf, or fish on the lakes. You can even plan a crawfish boil at one of the pavilions at Twin Lakes. 

 

Another beautiful place to spend outdoors while in Diamondhead, MS is to visit the Maluhia Garden. There are eleven flower beds, castle wall bricks, three bridges, a gazebo, and 900 feet of walkway. It’s a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenery. 

 

If you like kayaking, there’s a trail that starts in the Rotten Bayou Blueway in Diamondhead, MS. Here, you can get to know the unique coastal resources of the Gulf of Mexico. Explore nature and spend time paddling the Gulf.

Attractions in and near Diamondhead

If you like bowling, Diamondhead has a family entertainment center called Park Ten Lanes. There, they offer bowling, an arcade, a snack bar, and a lounge with live entertainment.

 

For the kids and the kids at heart, just a few miles away from Diamondhead, MS in Pearlington, MS, a trip to the INFINITY Science Center is sure to amaze! At the science center, you can explore the Earth, oceans, and space through varying levels of involvement. You and your kids can also explore engineering and technology. There are museums, videos, and live presentations to be part of. The INFINITY Science Center provides you with a fun learning experience. INFINITY also serves as the official visitor’s center for the Stennis Space Center. Though you can’t visit the space center itself, INFINITY is right next door, and if you’re lucky, you might be able to see the space center testing a rocket! 

 

While in Diamondhead, you can head to Gulfport, MS, and visit the Mississippi Aviation Heritage Museum. The Mississippi Aviation Heritage Museum was created to highlight the adventures of the pilot, John C. Robinson. He was the first African American to fight in combat in the Ethiopian War against Fascist Benito Mussolini. Eventually, the museum grew to include all the Mississippians who have been influential in the world of aviation. At the Mississippi Aviation Museum, you can learn about the fascinating history of aviation in Mississippi, and kids can learn how science, technology, engineering, and math are important to the future of aviation. They will also learn the fundamental principles of flight, aerodynamics, fluids, and gravitational pull. 

 

If you’ve been heading down the Blues Trail, there are eight trails to the Mississippi Blues Trail near Diamondhead, MS. The trails are Blue Hall, Biloxi Blues, Blues & Jazz, Broadcasting the Blues, Gulfport Boogie, Moss Point Blues, MS Gulf Coast Blues & Heritage Festival, and Ocean Spring Blues. There are also 12 casinos down along the Gulf, which isn’t far from Diamondhead, MS. These casinos are open 24 hours a day and offer not only games but food, spas, boutiques, and pools. 

Flying into Diamondhead

Diamondhead, MS’s airport identifier is 66Y, and its located at 1200 Airport Dr. It is open to the public, and 100LL fuel is offered 24/7 with a credit card after hours. The Diamondhead Airport doesn’t have a tower, but it has two runways, which are both in good condition. It does offer tiedowns.
