Maybe it’s the summer sun that has us dreaming of the cool, rolling waters of Pickwick Lake and the Tennessee River that border the northeastern tip of our state in a little town called Iuka. Iuka was built on the site of a Chickasaw Native village and is also home to Woodall Mountain, one of the highest points in Mississippi and a favorite hiking spot.
In addition to the many camping, water, and boating activities available at Mill Creek, Eastport, and JP Coleman State Parks along Pickwick Lake, Iuka is home to the Mineral Springs Park, where you can taste some of the freshest and finest water in the world. Iuka is also within nearby driving distance of Shiloh National Military Park, a civil war battle site, and Tishomingo State Park, a beautiful state park featuring swimming, hiking, camping, kayaking, and canoeing opportunities.
The quicker we get to this beautiful summer hotspot, the better! We can’t think of a faster way than by air. Luckily both Iuka and Belmont, Mississippi, the town located nearest Tishomingo State Park offer regional airports for travelers to the area.
The Iuka Airport is located on US Highway 72 within three miles of the city center. Self-service fueling stations are on-site and self-service 100LL is available 24 hours a day. Heated men's and women’s restrooms are also available. The nearest marina to Pickwick Lake from the airport is Eastport.
If you’re interested in starting out with the smaller waters of Bear Creek located in Tishomingo State Park, consider flying in a bit further south to the Tishomingo County Airport, located two miles south of Belmont, MS. Tishomingo County Airport is open 24 hours a day and self-serves 100LL and JET-A fuel anytime with credit card purchase.
The regional airports located in Tishomingo County are ideal for frequent travelers to the area, particularly those who have their own cabin or RV spot and their boat stored at one of the area marinas. Visitors who have rented a cabin and boat for their stay may also find flying in appealing.
