Thanksgiving Getaways in Mississippi

The deep south of America offers culture-filled, busy cities celebrating a traditional Thanksgiving. But you can also find quiet and peaceful remote country living destinations and take time to stop and be thankful.

Tupelo Regional Airport

An option that may suit the whole family is through the Tupelo Regional Airport. The Tupelo Regional Airport is the main gateway to northeast Mississippi and the tri-state area. Tupelo Aviation Unlimited offers a variety of amenities including fueling, tie downs, lounge with showers, pilot supplies, rental cars and aircraft, and more. Multiple hotel options are available within 2-3 miles of the airport including Holiday Inn & Suites North Tupelo, Candlewood Suites, and more.

While in Tupelo you can try out some elusive local cuisines at Forklift Restaurant, Blue Canoe, Harvey’s, and Fairpark Grill. Or you can join the festivities with the locals at Steele’s Dive, Neon Pig, and others. Treat your family to a night on the town with a feast of food and then make plans to enjoy Tupelo Events.

New Albany-Union County Airport

The New Albany-Union County Airport is located just 3 miles from the central business district of New Albany. This rural airport facility gives you access to a cozy and beautiful community known as the heart of the Mississippi hills. From college town events to the locals hosting a lighting of the town Christmas tree, you can walk the sidewalks of downtown New Albany to shop, dine, and enjoy the small community life.

Plan your stay at hotels in the area including Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, Hampton Inn and more. Be sure to include your dining stops at West Side BBQ, Warehouse Fish and Steak, 2 Sisters Diner, Tallahatchie Gourmet, and more.

Enjoy the outdoors with the Tanglefoot Trail and Park by the River, or catch a baseball, soccer, tennis game at the sportsplex. Your visit to the heart of the hills wouldn’t be complete without watching the SEC Egg Bowl on television or getting last minute tickets. The Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss Thanksgiving night football game is always one for the books.

Golden Triangle Regional Airport

The Golden Triangle Regional Airport is located ?? miles from the Mississippi/Alabama state line. Here you can enjoy the hills of Mississippi or take a day and explore the base of the Appalachian Mountains in northern Alabama. This airport offers some amenities including fuel, boarding, tie downs, and hangars for a fee.

Mississippi’s Secret Coast

We’ve shared about our favorite places to visit around the northern half of the state, but we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Mississippi’s Gulf Coast region, also known as the Secret Coast. There are several general aviation airports to choose from including Diamondhead Airport, which is sandwiched between Gulfport, MS and New Orleans, LA; Stennis International Airport, located near Bay St. Louis in Hancock County, and Ocean Springs Airport near Ocean Springs, MS. From golfing in Diamondhead to coastal casinos to historic landmarks to some of the best shopping and dining the South has to offer, Mississippi’s Secret Coast is stunningly beautiful this time of year and much more budget friendly than other coastal regions.
