As a new school year begins, a new class of students preparing for their future in aviation is stepping into place. It’s the perfect time to look at aviation-related scholarships for Mississippi students.
Jets Scholarship at Hinds Community College
Full-time aviation students at Hinds Community College entering at least their third semester of studies can apply for the Jets Scholarship the Hinds Community College Foundation provides. Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, a clean disciplinary record, and at least nine credits completed in their Associate of Applied Science by August of the fall semester that students will enter their third semester. The deadline to apply for scholarships provided by the Foundation is February 15. More information can be found here.
Mississippi State University Department of Aerospace Engineering Scholarships
Down in Starkville, Mississippi, State University offers excellent degree programs for aspiring aerospace engineers and several scholarships for undergraduate students including the Astronaut Scholarship. Along with the Astronaut Scholarship, several private scholarships are also available, such as the Lieutenant Colonel Charles P. Downer, Jr. Memorial Scholarships, offering $1,000 per year to deserving students, and the Z.U.A. AOPA Flight Training Scholarships for High School Graduates
High school students hoping for an aviation career can get financial assistance through the AOPA Foundation, which offers a host of scholarships for the industry. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is in May of each year. Read about each scholarship here.
Scholarships for Delta State Aviation Students
Delta State University is well known for its secondary aviation education programs, particularly for commercial aviation. Students in the aviation programs at Delta State have multiple scholarship opportunities available. A new scholarship this year is the Richardson Memorial Scholarship, a private scholarship from the family of a former DSU student who passed away before completing his aviation degree. A $4,000 scholarship from the Airport Minority Advisory Council is available for full-time students in the Commercial Aviation program. Minority and female students majoring in computer information systems for Commercial Aviation are encouraged to apply for the Hilton Hotel CIS Endowment Fund. All commercial aviation students at Delta State can apply each year for the FedEx Purple Runway Commercial Aviation Scholarship by March 31.
