Natchez, Mississippi
Though, yes, most of us want to venture outside of our state, we think that Natchez will offer you the perfect vacation trip or weekend getaway! Natchez is known as the bed and breakfast capital of the South. How fun is that?! It’s also named as one of the friendliest cities in the United States. Natchez is located alongside the Mighty Mississippi, and one of the best places to view the Mississippi River is Bluff Park, especially at sunset. The history is rich, and the views are spectacular! And, you can’t beat the food in Mississippi!
If you decide to visit Natchez, you can fly into the Natchez-Adams Airport.

Hillsborough is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because it features over 100 homes, schools, churches, and other buildings from the late 18th and 19th centuries. It’s also the perfect place to visit if you’re a history buff who has studied the Civil War closely. It’s home to General Joseph E. Johnston’s headquarters where he surrendered the largest part of the Confederate army to Sherman, which eventually led to the end of the Civil War. The town also housed a large number of Revolutionary War soldiers and Indian tribes during the 1700s. There are Revolutionary War reenactments in Hillsborough, too. For the outdoorsmen (and women) you can hike one of the longest trails in North Carolina: NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail which spans 1150 miles, ranging from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. You can even go to the Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area and spend even more time outdoors. There’s lots to do and lots to see in this unique town.
